What made them ‘Hindus’ to join Militant Outfits?
It was believed that the Muslims have joined militant out fits for the sake of 'Jihad' but now Hindu Youth are also joining them in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is a 'million dollar' question to answer. It is said that they either join for monetary benefits or to safe guard their community from militant strikes. But majority of the Hindus are of the view that they actually belong to a criminal lot. "It is not yet known for what they are exactly joining them" says a local Hindu of Doda.

Since the inception of militancy in this trouble torn state, thousands of Muslim youth both from Kashmir and Jammu region joined hands with militants. Even a good number of them crossed over to other side of the border to get themselves trained.

Majority of these young boys were not knowing that for what they are being trained. "I was motivated to cross over other side of the border and was trained there" said a surrendered militant when asked about the cause of his joining militancy.

In the early years of militancy every one had a soft corner for them 'Militants' but with the passage of time people got fed up and started drifting away from these outfits. Perhaps, for the reasons what they had promised them 'Kashmiris' could not be achieved so far.

The people are of the view that it is clear that the leaders who claim to be the real representatives of the people of the state got fractioned over the ideology of each other, which creates some internal conflict among them. "We want self determination and let a common Kahsmiri decide what he wants," said a local youth who believes that gun was not solution of the Kashmir issue.

It is believed that the Hindus who have joined Militant outfits are either school dropouts, like Kuldeep Sharma alias Kamran who was active in Doda district for the last five years and allegedly involved in large number of killings in Doda district.

"Most of them are illiterates or school dropouts who were jobless before joining the militant ranks" said an intelligence officer adding that money was the only motivation for these Hindu boys to join militancy.

These youth according to security forces are being paid a handsome amount as a monthly remuneration, which attract them to join militants. But local people are of firm belief that all of them are unemployed and qualified.

Perhaps to gain power they got trapped in and took guns against the administration which failed to provide them jobs. "Some people use guns to wield power. This is also why these Hindu youth turn to militancy," said a senior police officer.

It is for the third time when a Hindu Militant got killed during gun fight with the security forces. Last year, two Hindu militants surrendered before the army in Jammu and the preceding year, two others had dropped their guns before the security forces.

Defence sources revealed that after joining the militant ranks, they change their names and even change their religion too. The reason behind their joining the hands of militancy was however not known.

The local Hindu leaders of the area say that he was criminal and was wanted in five cases. In fact, a dozen Hindus are currently active in Jammu region and working for different militant outfits.

Security forces engaged in counter insurgency operations in the state have found that a more than fifty Hindu militants are active in Jammu division however; they said that the number could be less or more. The involvement of Hindus in militancy related activities was unearthed when a local commander of Hizbul Mujahideen in Rajouri was gunned down.

This week one Kuldeep Kumar Sharma alias Kamran, who was a deputy district commander of Hizb-ul-Mujhadeen in Doda, was killed along with his associate Khalid Kashmiri by a joint team of J&K police and Rashtriya Riffles (RR). Deputy Inspector General of Police Doda-Udhampur Range when asked told Gaash that "Kamran who converted himself was actually a criminal of the area and had no way of saving himself from police accept to join Militants.

He said that there are more than eight Hindu youth who are active in militancy in the hilly areas of Doda and Udhampur districts. "Most of them are goons and with criminal minds" he said adding that they have rapped so many girls and were providing to their associates also. The question remains unanswered even after knowing their different ideologies to join militants. Some says for getting girls in their trap they took guns and some are of the opinion that to evade arrest they join militancy.

What so ever the reason may by finally they got killed by the troops or their own associates who don't trust them until they don't take part in killings and gunfights. People of the state in particular and leaders of the two neighbouring countries in general must understand the depth of humanity and human rights. Both of them should come out with the solution which is acceptable to all.

Let us hope for the best is a common word heard from every Kashmiri when so ever he is asked about the solution of the conflict. Shakespeare has rightly said

"To speak the truth we need two, one to speak and one to listen"

So let us speak the truth and let them listen to it...?
