» Second Roundtable On Kashmir
By Dr. Syed Nazir Gilani | Published 05/10/2006 | Editorial | Rating:
Second roundtable scheduled on 25th May at Srinagar is an effort to carry forward if there was anything substantive tabled by Kashmiri schools of opinion on 25 February in the best interests of a people who have a log list of grievances against government of India and the government of Pakistan.

Government of India in accordance with the disputed bilateral agreement of 26 October 1947 has failed to protect their 'life', 'property' and 'honour'.

Government of Pakistan in accordance with her assumed 'trust obligations', under UNCIP resolutions, in her two controlled parts of Kashmir, has failed to secure living numerical for a final count in self-determination.
» Islam's writ will run in Kashmir
By News Team | Published 05/6/2006 | Editorial | Rating:
Friday shutdown in Srinagar is reassuring to note that we have a conscientious civil society. It is even more reassuring that people were clear in their agenda, that is, a 'demand to punish the culprits' and a reiteration that "Islam's writ will run in Kashmir".

Islam's writ in such cases provides a very stringent and fool proof system to adduce evidence and administer justice. It does not provide for an unruly and violent charge on an accused, in this case, a female Sabeena.

She is an alleged 'kingpin' in the sex racket but she has to be treated innocent until proven guilty. The law of evidence in Islamic jurisprudence in such cases is clear and at the same time it has to remain in the hands of sane people. Their sanity has to remain qualified with a character, unblemished, before casting a stone.
» Doda Massacre
By News Team | Published 05/3/2006 | Editorial | Rating:
The massacre of 32 citizens of Jammu and Kashmiris in Doda is a shameful act of inhumanity and insanity. The sting of the shame is further aggravated because the dead are Hindus and have lost their lives in a militant context - which has started to limp walk from violence to finding other peaceful means to address the full regime of Rights of the people.

Kashmir encompasses many variables and many interests. On both sides of LOC killing is commercial  and many lips have tasted the red of blood money. So blood has to be shed to keep the wheel of fortune turning. At this point it would be too early to name and blame anyone.
