Mohammed Maqbool Bhatt - by Kumkum Chadha.

Mohammed Maqbool Bhatt aka Maqbool Butt has been called Baba-i-Qaum, father of the nation and Shaheed-e-Kashmir. He is the first Kashmiri hanged on Indian soil after 1932, making him the first authentic martyr of the Kashmiri independence movement.

Friends knew him as a true nationalist with a passion for Azadi. The enemies of Kashmiri freedom movement dubbed him as an 'enemy agent' on either side of LOC.

His friends are part responsible in provoking an Indian 'tit for tat' that resulted in  his hanging. He was hanged in Tihar jail in India on 11th February 1984 exactly one week before his 46th birthday..

Gaash is publishing with thanks a rare insight by Kumkum Chadha into the life of the wronged leader of a nation that has consumed a generation in just 15 years and is still wandering  in the wilderness of failure, mistrust and remains pitched against its own interests.
